Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2012-3520

Original release date: 10/03/2012
Last revised: 03/07/2013

The Netlink implementation in the Linux kernel before 3.2.30 does not properly handle messages that lack SCM_CREDENTIALS data, which might allow local users to spoof Netlink communication via a crafted message, as demonstrated by a message to (1) Avahi or (2) NetworkManager.

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score: 1.9 (LOW) (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:N/I:P/A:N) (legend)
Impact Subscore: 2.9
Exploitability Subscore: 3.4
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Locally exploitable
Access Complexity: Medium
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type: Allows unauthorized modification
