Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2010-0006

Original release date: 01/26/2010
Last revised: 03/19/2012
Source: US-CERT/NIST

Overview

The ipv6_hop_jumbo function in net/ipv6/exthdrs.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.32.4, when network namespaces are enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) via an invalid IPv6 jumbogram, a related issue to CVE-2007-4567.

Impact

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score: 7.1 HIGH
Impact Subscore: 6.9
Exploitability Subscore: 8.6
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Network exploitable
Access Complexity: Medium
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type: Allows disruption of service

Vendor Statements (disclaimer)

Official Statement from Red Hat (01/28/2010)
Not vulnerable. This issue did not affect the versions of the Linux kernel as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4, 5 and Red Hat Enterprise MRG as they did not have support for network namespaces, and did not include upstream commit 483a47d2 that introduced the problem.
