Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2011-2939

Original release date: 01/13/2012
Last revised: 10/23/2013
Source: US-CERT/NIST

Overview

Off-by-one error in the decode_xs function in Unicode/Unicode.xs in the Encode module before 2.44, as used in Perl before 5.15.6, might allow context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted Unicode string, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.

Impact

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.1 (MEDIUM) (AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) (legend)
Impact Subscore: 6.4
Exploitability Subscore: 4.9
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Network exploitable
Access Complexity: High
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type: Allows unauthorized disclosure of information; Allows unauthorized modification; Allows disruption of service
